After 7 weeks of Golf Academy at the Sandringham Driving Range, the boys have made some excellent progress with their swings. All involved are now hitting longer and straighter under the tutelage of coaches Jonathon and JD.
A team of 11 boys from a US Basketball team from just outside of San Francisco visited the school today. They wanted to experience what an Australian school was like. Sandringham College was willing to assist, with both groups of students gaining insights into the different schooling systems. The boys joining various classes, took part in an AFL lesson with year 9’s and helped out with year 7 sport education. All students on campus had a great day and were intrigued with our visitors. We wish the boys the best of luck in their upcoming matches on the rest of their tour, and hope they enjoy their time in Australia.
Sandringham College will be establishing a sports enhancement program in 2014. The program will aim to develop students sporting and academic abilities through a curriculum focused on accelerated learning using the long term athlete development model.
A select group of students from the three sites got together today to participate in a student forum at the Beaumaris Campus. The forum enabled the students to voice their thoughts and ideas on the proposed program.
The afternoon involved a visit and tour of the Victorian Institute of Sport. Here they were taken on a tour of the institute by 5 time world champion aerial skier, Jacqui Cooper. Throughout the tour the students asked insightful questions about the role of the institute in supporting Victorian athletes to achieve success in sport and life.
Today the year 8 boys played in their Football round robin. The boys played extremely well, they won their first two games against Mordialloc and Westall. Unfortunately we lost in the final to Parkdale, a very well trained team. Students that played well in the day were Sam Taylor, Will Walker, Connor Cochrane, Dillon Melnjak and Tom Pola. Well done
Thanks to all of the parents and friends who gave us their Coles Sports for Schools vouchers last year. We have just received our new Sandringham College Football jumpers. The boys in sport education gave them a run today, and were impressed with their quality. The year 7 team is looking good and are prepared for the upcoming round robin in the last week of term.
