This year students from Mentone Girls and Sandringham College came together at the Beaumaris Campus to create an Alliance of Excellence.
One of the classes was units 1 and 2, Product Design and Technology, Textiles. Amy Willett was the teacher, and her students have designed and made some amazing garments. Unit 2 gets students to work as a team to design and create a product or range of products. They are nearing completion and look fabulous.
We welcome 16 new International students this term. Students have arrived from China, Japan, Italy, Belgium, Germany and Egypt. Last Friday the students were introduced to an amazing range of Australian animals. They thoroughly enjoyed the presentation by Lauren from Wild Action. The students had the opportunity to meet a Koala, Penguin, Kookaburra, Wallaby joey, Echidna, Python, Green treet for, Turtle, Crocodile and Stumpy tailed lizard.
Training for this years event has been taking place on Sunday Morning on Beach Road for the last part of Term 3 and into term 4. With all of the students and parents putting some quality kilometres into their legs. Everyone is building their skill and confidence in preparing themselves for the event. This years ride will start in Mt Gambier and finish in Geelong for a total of 610kms.

The art and design graduate students are exhibiting a creative and diverse array of artworks at Without Pier Gallery from October 14 – 21. On display will be work produced in Art, Studio Arts Drawing/ Photography and Visual Communication and Design. The college embraces a vibrant visual arts community with over 150 students opting to study art/design related folio subjects in Year 12. The exhibition will showcase the talents of over 50 students studying across a range of disciplines including oil painting, mixed media, watercolour, drawing, digital and analog photography, computer aided design and product design, illustration, ceramics and sculpture. Many exhibiting students will be hoping to gain entry into art and design courses at University and Tafe when they graduate, with the goal of becoming qualified industry designers or professional artists in the future. Without Pier is a commercial gallery who has supported the college by showcasing the senior students work annually for the last 16 years. They provide a fantastic opportunity for the students to have their work hung in a professional space. The exhibition opens on Tuesday 15 October at 6pm.
After 7 weeks of Golf Academy at the Sandringham Driving Range, the boys have made some excellent progress with their swings. All involved are now hitting longer and straighter under the tutelage of coaches Jonathon and JD.
