Unit 4 Biology – Tiger Tales

The Year 12 Biology classes enjoyed a morning at Melbourne Zoo where we got to go behind the scenes and meet the family of Sumatran Tigers. At the Zoo, we looked at morphological features that differentiated species into sub-species and the Geographical barriers preventing gene flow. In the afternoon we traveled to the Gene Technology Access Centre (GTAC) where students took part in the PCR and gene sequencing of Tiger DNA. This excursion will form the basis of their last Biology SAC.
