This weeks cycling adventure for 3C9 took us to the wooden boarded velodrome at the Darebin International Sports Centre (DISC). Part of the adventure involved getting from Sandringham to Darebin by bicycle. This involved using a combination of public and active transport (riding to each station). Track Cycling is a unique sport that uses a bicycle with a fixed wheel and no brakes! Given this is a 3C9 Challenge unit, this was not a problem for most students. Riding on the Velodrome was a challenge for all, with 42.5 degree banks at each end of the 250 metre track, overcoming fear was a major factor. All students were challenged with some moving higher and higher up the track. We finished the session with all students completing a timed lap out of the starting gate with Marcus from Beaumaris being the fastest, followed by Mac and Ari from Sandringham 7-10.
Thanks to Cycling Victoria and Daryl Perkins for their assistance.
