University of Melbourne Vet Science Open Day

Report by Brodie M year 10:

I went to a VET open day at Melbourne University at Werribee on Sunday the 25th of March. It was really valuable experience and I was able to learn a lot from it. I learnt that there are 3 different ways to get into a Veterinarian course. You either had to get a 98.5 for your ATAR score and go straight into the VE

T course. Otherwise you can complete a Bachelor of Science degree and then apply to go into the VET course. The final way is to start a Bachelor of Science degree and in your second year major in Biochemistry and Biology and in your third year if your marks are good enough and you want to you can start your Veterinary degree which is the same as your first year of Veterinary Science but is considered your third year in your Bachelor of Science degree. You need at least 85 for your ATAR score to be able to apply for the Bachelor of Science degree.

Some of the areas I had an opportunity to look around were the lecture theatre, equine centre and just generally around the university. Overall, I really found the experience very useful as it will help me on deciding my future paths.

Thanks for the information Brodie. Unfortunately we were away in NZ so couldn’t attend the day.

My daughter, Rebecca, in Year 9 wants to be a VET too. She is booked in to VET 4 a Day out at Healesville Sanctuary, Tuesday 1st May. Ms Tonios has the information if you are interested. Let me know if you are going and maybe we can organise carpooling. 🙂

  2. Thanks! We are glad you love it!
